Center for Oklahoma Studies

The Center for Oklahoma Studies, located at East Central University in Ada, OK, offers scholars and students opportunities to study the rich cultural resources of Oklahoma and the surrounding regions.

Created in 1998, this humanities-based program sponsors activities in three key areas:

Curriculum: The Center enhances East Central University's curriculum through an inter-disciplinary, multicultural minor in Oklahoma studies. Students take an introductory course in regional studies, then choose classes to suit their interests from a variety of offerings. One independent study project allows intensive inquiry designed cooperatively by the student and a faculty advisor.

Research: The Center encourages scholarly research in Regional studies, initially by working with East Central University's Linscheid Library to build an Oklahoma Collection of primary and secondary texts and recordings.

Activities: The Center offers annual joint scholarly-public events such as readings, lectures, performances, and conferences.
