ECU STUDENT, SBDC CLIENT, DEMONSTRATES PROTOTYPE

An East Central University student and his associates demonstrated an early prototype of their SST (Simple Secure Tunnel) device in the OpenBeta2 un-conference for Internet professionals, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts recently in Oklahoma City.

Charles Southerland is a founder of Stuph Labs, a software consultancy which has been a project of his for about seven years. He will graduate from ECU next year with a degree in computer science. In addition, he is a client of the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center on the ECU campus.

A booth manned by Southerland, Michael Beam and Tyler Earman generated interest, Southerland said, but their "lightning talk" won the "Best, Most Humorous Lightning Talk" award. Beam and Earman presented "Common Myths about Open Source," a list of myths about free and open source software and why many of these myths are not true.
