OAC, ECU PRESENTING REGIONAL FORUM FOR ARTS LEARNING SEPT. 28

The Oklahoma Arts Council is partnering with East Central University to present one of three Regional Forums for Arts Learning in Ada from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28 [TUESDAY] in the Regents Room of the ECU Memorial Student Union.

"Forums will address the council's arts education grants in depth and identify arts learning assets in each region," said Michael Eddens, the council's director of arts education programs. "Identifying assets will help those involved in arts education share resources and extend their capacity."

Eddens will highlight the council's grants and services available to schools and communities for arts education. Model programs will be discussed and attendees will have the opportunity to talk about their work while learning about arts education activities going on in their areas.

Educators, arts organizations, artists, community organizations and other interested individuals are invited to attend the free forum, which will close with a discussion about arts education advocacy.

The arts council also is partnering with the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah for a forum on Sept. 21 and the Freedom West Community Development Corporation in Alva for a forum Oct. 21.

The Regional Forum for Arts Learning is the first of three arts meetings to be held in the three Oklahoma communities this year. Through the newly established Oklahoma Regional Arts Network, Ada, Tahlequah and Alva serve as hubs for the arts in their regions of the state. The network partners the council with institutions in each community to foster cultural development and increase funding to rural and underserved areas of Oklahoma.

To reserve a space at the forum at ECU, contact the regional arts coordinator in Ada, Bridget Forshay, at 580-559-5296 or bforshay@ecok.edu.

For more information about the arts learning forums, contact Michael Eddens at 405-521-2023 or Michael.eddens@arts.ok.gov. For more information about the Oklahoma Regional Arts Network, contact Georgia Williams at 405-521-2024 or georgia@arts.ok.gov.

The Oklahoma Arts Council is a state agency whose mission is to improve lives through the arts by promoting and sustaining the development of a thriving arts environment which is essential to quality of life, education and economic vitality for all Oklahomans.
