OSU MARKETING PROFESSOR TO DELIVER ANNUAL PARKER ETHICS LECTURE AT EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY
Dr. Joshua Lyle Weiner, professor and head of the Marketing Department at Oklahoma State University, will present "Ethics, Marketing, Choice and the Attack on Individual Freedom" at the 20th annual Parker Ethics Lecture March 23 [TUESDAY] at East Central University in Ada.
Weiner will speak at 4:30 p.m. in the Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill S. Cole University Center. The public is invited and there is no charge for admission.
Weiner, who has a Ph.D. in economics from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has long been active in public policy and marketing and is currently the associate editor of the prestigious Journal of Public Policy and Marketing.
He is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Oklahoma Cancer Research Center and a member of the Governor's Scientific Advisory Committee on Tobacco Prevention.
Weiner has an extensive record of research publications, including articles published in such academic journals as the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing.
"We are fortunate to have an individual right here in Oklahoma with a great expertise in the influence of marketing on the public and the related public policy issues," said Dr. Tom Lanis, director of ECU's Parker Ethics Center.
Over the years, the Parker Ethics Center Lecture Series has consistently featured national ethics experts.
"For over 20 years the annual Parker Ethics Center Lecture has been a venue where faculty and students could come together and spend time focusing and reflecting on a timely ethics topic," said Dr. Bill Chapman, the founding director of the center.
In March 2009, Walt Precourt, vice president for Holcim Inc., discussed "Social Responsibility in a Global World." In 2008 Bob Byrne, regional ethics advisor for the Boeing Company, discussed the cultural change efforts centered around the company's emphasis on ethics.
The Oscar L. Parker Center for the Advancement of Ethical Standards in Business and Society was established in 1988 as a memorial to Oscar L. Parker, a highly respected educator, businessman, college administrator and civic leader of Ada, and an active supporter and long-time employee of ECU.
The center's mission is to be an accessible resource on ethics for business and society, promote ethics education and ethical behavior, and foster discussion on ethics and ethical issues. Its vision is a world where sound ethical principles guide the decisions and actions of people in business, government and society, Lanis said.
The ECU School of Business has more than 500 students majoring in accounting and business administration. The school provides a high-quality, student-focused learning environment delivered to students by a dedicated team of well-qualified faculty members. The mission of the School of Business is to deliver a sustainable educational advantage for a knowledge-based economy.
